Calling all birds..

birdball mounted.jpg

I just love these birdballs and am delighted that they now have a wall mounted version of this elegant dwelling. It's handmade in clay and its spherical shape offers protection from nature's intruders, and will encourage small garden birds like Coal tits, Marsh tits, Blue tits and Great tits to nest in your garden. Pay your £34 to the Urban Garden and then watch the birdies.

Sleep Overs

sleeping bag urchin.jpg

As we are about to embark on our first outdoor experience we need to get Erin a sleeping bag. This polka-dot pink one for £25.99 from Urchin might just do the trick. Either that or we just zip it up and hope for the best. Alternatively we could check out their family festival listings and attempt another location - we'll let you know.

Chim chimenea...

chimenea.jpg

There is definitely something romantic about being in the garden at winter time; all wrapped up in your winter woolies and feeling the warm glow from a chimenea on your face (preferably whilst drinking some mulled wine too). I love the rustic design of this La Hacienda Cast Iron Chimenea from www.patiogear.co.uk , priced at £69.99. But if this particular design isn't your cup of tea, they have a great range, all reasonably priced and with free delivery.

Flutterby

paperchase camping table.jpg

Butterfly motifs make such pleasing decorations, and they seem to be everywhere at the moment, but I especially love the designs by Paperchase. Aside from wrapping paper, cards, pens and bags all delightfully emblazoned with the happy little creatures, I found this cute ’Floral Butterflies’ camping table for £25 on their website. The table top is 42 x 42cm, and the height is 31cm, practical yet pretty, which equals perfect in Kerry’s world.

Bamboozled

HH05G-0001.jpg Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth, and highly sustainable. So this enchanting gazebo from Natural Bamboo Products is well worth £920 for its eco-friendliness. Smaller versions start at £580. The bamboo bridges are worth checking out too.

Good Wood

arc.jpg

Isn't this an elegant summer house to relax or work in? It's the first time I've seen such a beautifully arched outdoor living space that is also off the shelf. If you're interested, then contact Forest Garden for a quote and while you're at it -check the price on this sumptuous decking.

decking.jpg

It's the nicest I've seen in a long time and is from managed UK woodlands, so you can tread in comfort too. Let me know if you think it is affordable, I don't want to be disappointed.

Blacks for tents

tent.bmp

If you've been bitten by the camping bug, then you must head to as they've got a sale on right now with everything you could possibly need for the great outdoors. My sisters used to drag me around there, and I could never get enthused about folding cutlery or lightweight waterproofs. Yet this Trailhead 8BX tent has got me all excited with it's compact size and clever design. The fact that it is reduced from £334.99 to £299.99 also helps. Now all I have to do is find the right size for our family and convince Ross that camping is fun!

Birdballs

birdball 2.jpg

If you're going to invite our feathered friends to nest in the garden, then ditch that plastic bird box now and buy a gorgeous Birdball . It's round, just the way birds like to build their nests and offers year round nesting and protection from the elements. Plus it looks great too. For £29.95 plus p & p you can invite small garden birds to come and hang out in your garden.

Heavenly Bunny Homes

homepage_rabbit_image.gif

Are you thinking of keeping chickens, or need a new home for your rabbits or ducks, then you must look at the omlet website. It has a thorough and well presented guide/ starter kit for chicken rearing and stocks these wonderful eglus . Other pets will be green with envy when they see these modern, easy clean and purpose designed homes. They're not cheap at £300 -36, but as they've been developed with animal behaviourists input, they'll house up to 3 rabbits in guaranteed style, comfort and with the space for them to 'express themselves'. Not for those wishing to purchase a starter home, but for those with a paw already on the hutch ladder.

Footy Fever

goalposts.jpg

If your child has got a bad case of football fever or fancies themself as a future Johnnie Wilkinson in the making , then you need to buy them this Inflatable football/rugby goalpost complete with balls for 16.99. It can be found on the new Mini Marvellous site which has been launched to cater for all your 2 -8 year olds needs. It has food tips, music links, a what's on guide and a toys reunited service!

Of course if your child is not the footy type, then they could always hide in this beautiful teepee and play cowboys and indians with their toys and probably me.

Garden Workers

Retreat office.jpg

Let's face it a loft extension is going to cost you £30-40k, so if you've got the space in your garden, then a garden office/hide away/ work studio/ escape the kids place seems to make sense. This Garden retreat costs from £18,400 and has the added bonus of being made with eco-friendly materials - from the insulation to the cladding and cedar roofing.

Inside Out Buildings have clearly positioned themselves as people to provide you with outdoor working, leisure or practical spaces, with an emphasis all things green and enviable.

Fairy castle

picture_230.jpg This is the stuff dreams are made of. Someone had this fairy castle built for their children in the grounds of their country mansion by master treehouse builders Blueforest. It cost around £100,000, but Blueforest will undertake bespoke tree house projects for as little as £10,000. Still beyond my reach, but it gives me something to aspire to.

Corner of enchantment

deckkit.jpg A quick way to create an outdoor lounging base would be to get a decking kit package from Dunster House. This one is £585 but basic modules start at £34. I would strew it with mattresses and cushions (see our Sit section) and accessorise the pergola with dingly dangly things and lanterns whilst waiting for my vine to grow.

If you go down to the woods today...

blue_weatherboard.jpg ...You're bound to find a home office at the bottom of it. If this look goes with your home then it's not a bad idea to start your office browsing at the Sanctuary site. If you need convincing, then read their price' section. It breaks the cost down to either a straight £15,000, a less painful £800 a year or a practically painless £15 a week. By then you start thinking - Let's get one, who cares that I don't actually work.

My property guru Sarah (Beeny to you) reckons it will add 5% to the value of your house and even Andrew Marr has been extolling the virtues of his work hideaway. Seriously, this makes sense as in most cases it does not need planning permission and if you are really shrewd can save you tax in other ways. This wouldn't be the one I would choose, I'll let you see that when they let me have the picture!
