Soft Screenings

willow screen.jpg

If you're in need of a bit of privacy, then this willow screening from Gone Gardening is not a bad place to start. It comes in 3 by 1/ 2 metre panels and is reduced from £32.99 to £24.99. They also have some finely woven reed and bamboo screens, which are also on sale. In fact it's the most useful looking gardening sale I've seen in a while, you may find there are a number of things you actually need.

Wonder Walls

wooden panels wickes.jpg

Ok so you know the name Wickes and may have even browsed through the brochure popped through your door. But take a closer look and you'll find solid 6 by 6 foot panels like this dipped close panel for £24.99. Plus some basic decking and paving kits, don't think of them as the trades people shop -consider it yours.

Coloured Fences

colourfence.jpg

I find a lot of fencing very staid and quite frankly boring. So Colourfence does offer a good alternative to traditional wooden fencing. It's pretty special in that it's made out of high tensile steel making it extremely strong but very lightweight too. If it does what it says on the tin, then it doesn't warp, corrode or fade and can stand up in winds of up to 130 miles per hour. Now there's just a small issue of price, does it come in every colour of the rainbow and can it withstand our current monsoon weather? Well being completely recyclable and guaranteed for 10 years suggests a certain confidence in the product.

The Edge

garden surround.jpg

I'm not a big fan of borders, but these edging strips could prove to be the exception. They're moulded in cast iron and are made to rust and age with time. Practically they have a 9cm spike and cost £7.50 per section from Plantstuff. Now it's a question of are hearts just a tad too romantic and girly?

Hazel Walls

hazel fencing.jpg

I love this natural hazel fencing, which would also make an effective garden divider. It measures 170cm tall by 180 wide and costs £68.95 per panel ,or you could order 3 and get one free. Even if these are not what you fancy, you're bound to find something to your taste on the vast Crocus site.

Hand made willow fencing

willow hurdles.jpg

I think willow fencing is a great choice, as it's makes a really pleasing garden feature while performing a very practical task. What makes these Cornish willow hurdles really special is that they are hand-made at Trovis Farm in Cornwall. It's a small holding, which consists of 24 acres of mixed pasture and woodland. So far they've planted a mixed fruit orchard and set up several wildlife areas with tree planting schemes. The willow hurdles start at £23 for a 6 by 2ft panel and go upto £70 for a 6 by 6 ft panel. Your fencing will be beautiful and green.

Keep them out

fence store.jpg

A friend of mine has just acquired a new neighbour who has taken to showering her garden with the remains of her lunch and dinner. So this sturdy, 6 foot high, feather-edge Supa Closeboard fence is needed right now from Fencestore. Even better it's reduced from £39.99 to £32.99 and is supplied in a brown finish, complete with integral capping. They also have some lighter wicker type ones - but I think she needs one which shouts 'Keep Out'.

Willow Fencing

willow-fencing focus.jpg

I haven't stumbled across a Focus Shop since I left Nottingham, so had forgotten what good value they are. This willow screening panel measures a healthy 3 x 1 metre and costs £15.99. Not sure if it's the photography but it does look a bit browny//orange, so you could opt for the natural reed one which cost £11.99 for a 5 x 1 metre panel. Either one will add an organic touch of privacy to your garden

Framing the garden

willow-fencing.jpg

It's definitely worth spending a bit of money on your fencing and having a good look at what the options are as it frames your garden and can dictate the look and feel of it. This willow screen panel (look under the 'Fencing Panels' section and then click on 'willow') is from Fencestore which has an extensive range of fencing panels, trellis, gates, posts and clips, furniture and arbours. This willow panel is handcrafted with a dip treated frame and was £61.00, now £38.99 (this could be because the trellis above has been discontinued). Worth a look as there are lots of discounts to be had or if only to stop you rushing off to a big DIY store and buying bog standard and boring fencing. Think of the neighbours.

Fence Me In

Fencing.jpg

We've recently had these fencing panels installed in our garden. They cost £29.99 each and are 1.8 metres by 1.18 metres from homebase . Initially I was a bit disappointed by the orange tinge to the wooden supports, but like a lot of new things, time has made the hue fade in my mind's eye.

Framed willow panel.jpg

If I hadn't been juggling a very small baby and had time to do some research, rather than leaving quite a few decisions to the very capable and and efficient Nathan at Theories Landscapes, then I might have chosen these 6ft by 6 ft boxed in windrush willow panels. They comes in 4 different sizes from windrush willow and are a pricier choice at £85 per panel.

Bamboo fencing.jpg

If the budgets been blown on the plants, then you could always opt for a 5 x 1.5 metre roll of bamboo fencing for £49 at Greenfingers. This is perfect if your fence is not needed as a feature, but needs a quick fix and hide solution.

Spring Flower Screen

Spring Flower Screen.jpg I want to order so much from Primrose London it hurts. Should I go for the flower screen, a bargain in my mind at £49.95 or maybe it should be the tranquilty corner arbour? Don't make the mistake I did and think Primrose London meant Primrose Hill and therefore very chic and very very expensive.

This family run company are based in Reading and have a well sourced and priced collection of beautiful and well crafted furniture, gazeboes, fencing, lighting, woven willow.... I defy you not to find something to bring some Spring cheer to your garden or balcony. If in doubt you can always call them and arrange a visit to their warehouse - just to check the goods are for real.
