Hippo Bags

hippo skip bag.jpg

If like me you've found hiring a skip an expensive and painful chore, then get one of these Hippo skip bags from that offbeat diy store Wickes. It costs 11.89 and is 1.5 cubic yards in size, at least the size of a bath judging by the picture. But don't forget if you're throwing out something that could be used and collected by someone else, then advertise it on Freecycle. As Bob the Builder says 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle'.

Elegant Dining

dinig table B & q.jpg

I was going to tell you about about some nifty bay trees for under £20 at B & Q but then found this simple and elegant Monoca Dining Set reduced from £199.90 to £93.94. As I can't resist a bargain I felt you should know about it right away. Ok so it's white, made of aluminium and glass, temporarily out of stock and the summer is practically over. Not put off? Then place an order right now.

Inspirational Paving

paving stonemarket.jpg

If this Summer has finally finished off your patch of shrubby grass, then be inspired by Concept Paving . It's reconstituted stone at it's most creative, you can be experimental in the way you combine up to four contrasting textures and two colours. Stonemarket really do challenge established textures and techniques from £24 a square metre upwards. If I didn't have kids then this paving would be for me.

Bamboozled

HH05G-0001.jpg Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth, and highly sustainable. So this enchanting gazebo from Natural Bamboo Products is well worth £920 for its eco-friendliness. Smaller versions start at £580. The bamboo bridges are worth checking out too.

Palms and Grasses

There's only so much bamboo you can take - our garden currently looks like we should have a panda roaming in it. So take a look at the fantastic range of palms and grasses at The Palm Centre. They're a lot more colourful and promise things like will 'move and whisper seductively in the breeze' - now that's a plant worth buying.

Birds & Drink

You're going to see a lot of bird houses on this site as I just can't resist them. For £13.50 you can provide a stylish and colourful home for your feathered friends courtesy of the Garden Trading company who also have a huge selection of vintage style enamel goods and utensils for in and outdoors.

Or forget your twitching and switch to drinking given this glorious weather. This glass carrier comes with 6 vintage glasses for £30, and means no spillage and a handy display piece to boot.

Fresh Potting Ideas

spiced_up_sumbox.jpg

Since I've been away the slugs have had a midnight rocket feast with a fair amount of chives and basil for dessert. So this 'live' indoor spice rack is a perfect purchase for my next attempt at growing herbs. It's a great creation from newly graduated/2006 New Designer award winner Mike Moran . Bad news is there's no price for it yet, unlike his eye-catching £20 pop-off planters. Someone to keep an eye on.
