Pretty Pepper

salt and pepper pots.jpg

Vintage chic shakes its way onto the dining table as we are greeted with the latest product from young designer Hannah Tifalos, as she presents these chintz patterned bone china salt and pepper pots for only £10. You can mix and match colours to create the perfect pretty couple, so I suggest you indulge immediately and get onto mirrormirror as soon as you can, and they even have a stacking egg cup set to go with to complete the family...heavenly.

The world in your kitchen

world map memo board.jpg

This magnetic memo board admittedly isn't exactly a die hard purchase, but is a lot of fun to put up in the kitchen and wistfully gaze at the places you'd rather be while cooking the dinner...It also has the names of all the countries, so may even double up as a bit of geographical education for the kids. If not, you should still get on to the utilitydesign website, as it's definitely original, and quirky, and besides, whats £30.00 for some harmless escapism?

Eco play

solar carousel.jpg

Batteries take a back seat and the planet rejoices with this brilliant solar powered wooden carousel from ecocentric.. The kids will love (and be bemused by) the toy that spins in the sunshine and stops in the shade. Made from polish beechwood and measuring 20cm high, for £29.00 this will add ethical giult free charm to the playroom at little expense.Phew.

Mommys Chair

LM_chair_red_large.jpgThis "Mommys Chair" by Lucy Merchant from the HiddenArtShop has a sweet, childlike feel to it, not surprising as according to them it is part of a collection inspired by "children's 2-dimensional drawing". I'd use mine as a stand alone to add a dash of colour and interest to my somewhat bland room but they're perfectly suitable for dining too and can be bought as a set of four. The website is definately recommended for more cool and quirky finds. (£249.95)

Etsy

Cardinal Cushion.jpgEtsy, the one stop shop for home made homeware goodies is a haven for one-off, personalised products. Scroll down to the "housewares" section for a plethora of original goods - you can find anything from hand embroidered tea towels to hand painted, smoked wine glasses. Think of it as Ebay but without the tat. My favourite right now is this "Orange Full Print Cardinal" cushion, a steal at only $28.

Crushing made fun

can crusher.jpg

This £14.50 recycled can crusher is a vast improvement on the heavy metal one I once owned and lost en route from Brixton to Hackney. The Guardian raved about this Home Recycling site for it's vast selection of recycle bins and indeed they are a joy to behold. First I need to mount one of these balck or blue beauities on my wall and get squeezing.

UFO

product_7_2.jpgThese simple yet oh-so-stylish Ethel lampshades from One Foot Taller cost £79.31 each, or just £33.75 + VAT if you (and your friends) want 5 of them. In simple moulded white polyethelene, they are simple to fit onto a normal light bulb holder and diffuse light just as well as costly white glass. A nicely bold 60cm-diameter flying-saucer shape, they bear looking at from above as well as below.
